Nilo Crocodile (Crocodylus Niloticus) or commonly, Nile Crocodile, is one of the most sought-after skins in the world for it's use in fine goods such as shoes, bags, and fine accessories. It has become more popular in recent years for it's use in exclusive handbags and refined leather goods. Nilo Crocodile originates from Africa, and have several similar traits to American Alligator, including desirable aesthetic qualities and the fact that they are roughly the same price.
That being said, Nilo is different from American Alligator in many ways, and it's easier to explain them in terms of differences rather than similarities. Nilo Crocodile has a smaller, more symmetrical, rectangular tile pattern. Most tiles in the center of the belly are remarkably similar and nearly perfectly mirrored on either side. Additionally, each tile has a small pore, or follicle on it which becomes noticeable when viewed closely. Moving from the center of the belly toward the sides of the belly, you might also notice that the Nilo Crocodile's tiles maintain a mostly square shape as the tiles get smaller rather than the more rounded shape that are on the outside belly of the Alligator. Finally, Niloticus skins are sometimes preferred to alligator because of the tighter structure that they provide when used in large panels. When in doubt, we advise that it's always best to default to the material that you find most aesthetically pleasing, as they're both perfectly suitable for most projects.
Pierpont leather only uses top-grade, center-cut Nilo Crocodile belly skin, which is the softest, most desirable area of the belly portion of the skin. Because of this, almost every single crocodile piece that we produce results in a more symmetrical and refined aesthetic that showcases the absolute best of what is currently on the market.
